Overview

Previously, you revisited the procedure for setting up a Jetpack Compose project. In this exercise, you will put that into practice by creating a new Jetpack Compose project using Android Studio.

Scenario

You have been tasked with creating a food ordering mobile app for Little Lemon for Android devices and have been instructed to use Jetpack Compose to set up a project from scratch.

Instructions

Before you begin, make sure you have the latest version of Android Studio installed. You can find this information on the Android Studio page. You’ll use Android Studio to build all code contained within this exercise and the exercises hereafter.

Step 1: Select project type

• Open Android Studio.

• Select File > New > Project and make sure Phone and Tablet section is selected.

• Select the Empty Compose Activity option and click Next .

Step 2: Name the app

• On the next window that appears, add the Application Name and select the preferred location for saving the project files.

• Optionally, update the Package name and select the Minimum SDK level. In this example, the application name is Little Lemon and a minimum SDK of 21 is selected.

• Then click Finish to create the project.

Conclusion

By completing this exercise, you have created a new Jetpack Compose application project in Android Studio, saved it in your preferred location and set the minimum SDK.
